 The Early Church
AD 33 to AD 100. The Church experienced rapid growth, but very little understanding of what was to come. Many were persecuted for their faith and some Roman emporers sought to rid the territory of this faith completey. |
 |
The Imperial Church
AD 101 to AD 400. The Church entered an age of organization and became an institution. This resolved problems like the great persecution, but then was viewed as an apostacy as well. Many Christians looked forward to becoming martyrs for their faith. |

 The Medieval Church
AD 401 to AD 1500. The Church faced many challenges when corrupt leaders came to power. A lack of knowledge of the Scriptures and a lack of piety caused many doctrinal errors that caused people to look toward major reform. The plague threatened lands and killed most of the population of some towns. It was a dark time in which topics such as hell, judgment, and damnation occupied the minds of many. Seats in the high places of the Church were traded and purchased instead of earned through piety and holiness. |
